A new team takes the reins with fresh ideas, new traditions, and plenty of school spirit.

This school year, STUGO has not only had many exciting leadership changes, but also advisor changes! Curious about our ever-evolving mission and visions for the Rancho community, I asked some of our representatives to share their perspective for the new school year.

STUGO has previously been led by Ms. Drummond and Ms. Adam for many years. This year, two new advisors, Ms. Jongewaard and Ms. Otter took on this meaningful role. We interviewed both of them to see how it’s going. Ms. J reflected, “STUGO has been a whirlwind from day one. I honestly could not do this without Ms. Otter by my side and would not. I am learning how to do this day by day. Off the record, I have been yelled at multiple times. But the students in STUGO are incredible and always make me smile, laugh, and just make my day. That’s why I do my job – for the students. I’m looking forward to making STUGO our own!” Ms. Otter shared her vision, “I think our main focus is just more school spirit and trying to get everyone to get excited about school events. We hope to have smaller events around the school in addition to the big events like Homecoming and Prom. We’re going to try to get class events to build school morale as well.”

Our treasurer, senior Jacob Gronner, shared his experience so far, “I’m really enjoying my time as treasurer, my favorite part has been brainstorming HOCO ideas with Ms. Otter - I think there’s a great group in STUGO right now and HOCO/Prom are going to be the best yet. The treasurer job has taken much more time than I expected but I really enjoy doing it and tracking the student store progress. It makes me really happy when we have a good day of sales and to feel like I’m making a direct impact.”

Next up, one of our three spirit coordinators, Madilynn Blacketer, was interviewed. She said, “I was hoping to add more spirit to the student body. I feel like pep assemblies are a big way to show that. Yes, we are a school big on academics, and the pep assemblies are really short for a reason, but we can still have fun during them. We draw people to the games with them which is our goal. We want students to think: I really want to be involved in my school instead of just showing up and doing the bare minimum.”

Our junior president, Aleya Chahal, shared, “This year of STUGO has been off to an amazing start! We have so many people new to STUGO who bring so many cool ideas to the table. Ms. J and Ms. Otter have done a great job with getting STUGO more involved and renovating the student store!” Noemie Delacollette, our sophomore president, added, “STUGO has been very proactive, coming up with new and engaging ideas for the coming year. We have been highly coordinated with planning recent senior events and the upcoming homecoming dance. Overall, our team has done such a fantastic job communicating and collaborating to make this year memorable.”

As part of our tradition, we welcomed two new freshmen officers this September. Our freshman president is Bono Haldiman, and our vice president is Asher Miller. We’re so excited to see what great leaders they’ll be!

Although there have been many changes, they allowed us to build upon our existing foundation. Everyone has been so enthusiastic working together to plan amazing events. We make a phenomenal team dedicated to advocating for our community.
