A Homecoming in Paradise

This past weekend was one of sunsets, royalty, and Cha-Cha slides. As the sun set, Rancho High School students gathered in the gym... or should I say, the sandy oasis of a sunset in paradise. This homecoming was one to remember for freshmen as their introduction to the homecoming experience, for sophomores and juniors as a glimpse of what our talented student government team can accomplish, and for seniors as the sun sets on their high school journey.
When we asked Maya Litt, the Social Media Coordinator, she told us that she was “proud of all the work StuGo put into setting up the event” and that that was largely in part from “the incredible leadership of Ms. J and Ms. Otter.” Considering it is their first year in charge of student government, they did an incredible job setting up for the dance along with StuGo members, teachers, and volunteers. When we asked Ms. Otter how she felt about the outcome, she told us that “it’s going really well and exactly how I thought it would. When I talked to some of the students, they told me they were having fun, and they like the music. I think it was a success.”
As for the DJ, there was varied feedback from the attendees. Senior Sean Salk said he enjoyed the music, and that the DJ “played some Kanye West songs” that he enjoyed. Mr. McCulley, however, was waiting for that special moment to enter the dance floor. He told Pegasus that “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis was that song. For Senior Oliver Cryan, the song he was anticipating was “My Love” by Justin Timberlake.
As the night gathered to a close, our homecoming royalty were crowned. Our king and queen, Madi Blacketer and Natan Berger, had their first dance to “Get You” by Daniel Caesar, promptly joined by the other couples who entered the floor. Madi was overjoyed because she “loves that song,” and she called it “a really special moment.”
It is safe to say another successful homecoming dance is behind us, and for some of us, our last. While all great nights must come to an end, this one was no different. We will always have the memories of the night we all spent dancing beneath the sunset.
