With a championship legacy behind them, Rancho’s POM team starts a new season ready to bring the spirit.

Give me a P, give me an O, give me an M! The POM team is coming in, hot! These past few weeks, the Rancho POM team has kicked off its 10th season. Since the first day of school, they have been diligent with their dancing. The first few practices were filled with learning simple chants and sidelines, before progressing quickly into their routines. For both JV and Varsity, the “bar has been raised”, which can be shown by their heavy panting after they finish practicing. This year, captains have been decided, with student Mehr Mayo as the JV captain, and Aislin Ferry as Varsity’s captain. Mehr Mayo, a sophomore and the JV captain, comments: “I’m so grateful for the opportunity and I’m really excited! In the past few years. I feel like our POM team has really stepped it up.” Additionally, the 2025-2026 Varsity pommies received their Champ rings, since they’re state champions in D4 pom. This is history, as they are the first Rancho POM team to receive such a prestigious award. When you enter the gym, look for the banner hanging in their honor.

On Thursday, September 3rd, the pom team cheered for their first volleyball game. The game, which ended up lasting a while longer than expected, was filled with excitement, happiness, and enthusiasm from the team. Fortunately, Rancho Solano won the game, and the crowd was in uproar over the victory. The pommies cheered for our Mustangs proudly, and the game was a success. Adding on, the student section for the first game was packed with our Stang Gang, and the excitement was through the roof, so much so, that the pommies did a special “people in the front” cheer (which is usually saved for the homecoming games, or the most hype student sections). To conclude, as sophomore Shane Rodgers, who attended the volleyball game, said, “the Pom team was very good and interacted well with the crowd like whenever they would do the thing where they went up to the stands in the intermissions and such."

On Saturday, September 12th, the Rancho Solano POM team hosted the Mini Mustang Camp. This is an annual event that allows students grades pre-K to 5th grade a chance to cheer with the pommies during the Homecoming game, while fundraising for their trip to Nationals. As soon as everyone arrived, the mini-Mustangs learned a line dance that they performed after breaks. To prepare for the Homecoming dance, the mini-Mustangs had to learn all the chants and sidelines that the Mustang pommies use. As junior Aislin Ferry expressed, “It felt good to teach the younger children because when I was little, I loved being taught from older kids and it feels good to aspire to the older kids.” From start to finish, Mini Mustang Camp was a rewarding experience that allowed the pommies to withdraw from performance and teach the littles the hard work that goes into stepping in their shoes.
